ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ now the joint 64th most sustainable university in the world and ninth in the UK according to the annual Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings.
This marks a strong improvement on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s joint 77th global position in 2024, and is the first time the university has been in the top 10 in the UK.
It is an accomplishment made even more impressive considering a record 2,318 universities entered into the ranking system this year.
The Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings is the only global performance table that assesses universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using detailed evidence to assess institutions across four areas: research, stewardship, outreach and teaching.
For the first time, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ submitted data for 16 out of the 17 SDGs, up from 10 in 2024 – the most comprehensive submission the University has made to date.
Sustainability is a core value at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, and our improved global ranking and broader SDG submission reflect the dedication of our staff, students, and community partners. These results not only recognise our progress but also highlight the areas where we can - and will - do more."

This isn’t because we’ve simply thrown a load of money at the issue - it’s because we actually all do a lot of good things, every single day at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ; probably without even realising it. We’re a fantastic University doing some fantastic work, and I think we should all be pretty proud of that.

The 2025 rankings show notable gains in several individual SDGs, with ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ ranked:
- 12th in the world (out of 973 institutions) for SDG12: Responsible Consumption and Production
- Joint 15th (of 1,261) for SDG10: Reduced Inequalities
- 65th (of 1,350) for SDG8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- 47th (of 711) for SDG14: Life Below Water
- Joint 71st (of 854) for SDG15: Life on Land
