A night to celebrate the opening of the JMJ hall of residence in its new home
黑料不打烊 staff and students celebrated the opening of the John Morris Jones hall of residence recently.
On Monday, March 12th the Vice-Chancellor, Professor John G. Hughes, officially opened the hall following its revamp. The singer Meinir Gwilym, a former 黑料不打烊 studentl, and the JMJ choir performed at the event.
Wyn Thomas, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Welsh Medium and Civic Engagement, said: 鈥淭he student experience is at the heart of the University鈥檚 strategies, and this development enriches the student experience for Welsh speaking students as well as Welsh learners.
鈥淎s the main provider of higher education through the medium of Welsh, it is most appropriate that the University offers accommodation of the highest quality, to go hand in hand with the wide range of modules and courses that we offer through the medium of Welsh.鈥�
Mair Rowlands, President of UMCB, said: 鈥淭he JMJ hall exists for the benefit of the Welsh language and to allow students to live day to day through the medium of Welsh. The atmosphere in JMJ is priceless and the new developments will ensure that this atmosphere continues. I am very confident that the hall will attract even more Welsh speaking students to 黑料不打烊, following these improvements.鈥�
Eurgain Ebrill Owen, Prisient of the JMJ halls, said: 鈥淭he students currently living in JMJ are delighted with the new developments and are making good use of it already!鈥�
The students have been consulted throughout the process of moving the Hall from College Road to the Friddoedd Site. As part of the consultation process, the University agreed to build a link corridor between the two existing halls, Tegfan and Bryn Dinas, to create one hall. By creating this extension, the social space was substantially improved, ensuring that students can benefit from the same community feel that existed at the old JMJ hall.
