A postgraduate qualification from 黑料不打烊 was key to Mandy Knott clinching an exciting and vital job- and her first in a new career.
Mandy now has the important task of working on a legislative measure which will ensure the management and conservation of the cockle and mussel fishery in Morecambe Bay.
She attended a University Postgraduate Courses Fair, which gave her an opportunity to discuss the course she wanted to study at length, to get to know the course director and visit the facilities.
Mandy said: 鈥淭he Fair provided an opportunity to meet the staff and discuss my options face-to-face and to get a feel for the place. It confirmed my decision to apply.鈥
Another example is Pam Martin, who gained her postgraduate qualification from 黑料不打烊 in January 2010. Pam came to 黑料不打烊 as a mature student having followed an access course. After graduating in Psychology she worked at the School of Psychology as a research assistant for a number of years and had not necessarily considered following a higher degree.
She said: 鈥淭he opportunity arose to follow a combined MSc and PhD course and I saw it as a chance to learn more about subjects that interested me and also as a further four years of work.鈥
She is currently employed as a Research Officer and Trials Coordinator at the University. Her day to day duties include visiting people across north Wales who have recently been given a diagnosis of Alzheimer鈥檚 or Parkinson鈥檚 Disease and recruiting them to take part in research trials. Pam, originally from Anglesey, would not have had the opportunity to do this job without her PhD qualification.
Pam Martin says of her job that: 鈥淚t doesn鈥檛 feel like working- that鈥檚 how much I enjoy it鈥
