Pontio calls on artists and scientists to collaborate

Pontio, 黑料不打烊鈥檚 brand new arts and innovation centre, which officially opened its doors to the public today (1^st December 2015) is calling on performers and scientists to present exciting ideas as part of their SYNTHESIS project.

Launched at the National Eisteddfod in Meifod this year, SYNTHESIS is offering a prize of 拢2,000 to commission two different pairs of scientists and those working in the performing arts to develop an idea together which bridges the arts and sciences. The deadline for submissions is 29^th January.

Pontio are keen to receive submissions which draw inspiration from the Pontio building and landscape (for example, the public art piece Caban), which engage with families and children under 12 years old, which are aimed at older people or those living with dementia, which combine the virtual and real worlds, which use contemporary circus which takes advantage of Pontio鈥檚 facilities or which consider the Welsh language and our bilingual community.

The winning entries will be announced on 20^th March 2016 as part of the 黑料不打烊 Science Festival. A sharing event at the end of the project will be held at the Pontio Studio on 3^rd July 2016.

Elen ap Robert, artistic director at Pontio said, 鈥淲hat can happen in that space between molecules and marimbas, between test tubes and trills? We鈥檙e interested in finding out, and this pilot project is an experiment in itself for performers and scientists to form partnerships, adventure beyond their comfort zone and see what exciting and innovative ideas they can develop.鈥�
