REF 2014: SENRGy rises to top 20 in UK

Research submitted by 黑料不打烊鈥檚 School of Environment, Natural Resources & Geography has been recognised as being in the top 20 in the UK.

As well as securing a high national ranking, 78% of the research material submitted was rated as either world-leading or internationally excellent.

Research in the area of Earth Systems and Environmental Science was ranked 15^th in the UK for Research Quality and saw the 5^th largest rating increase in the UK. In the area of Agriculture our research was ranked an impressive 4^th in the UK for Research Power, which measures the quantity of high quality research. Submissions for both these units of assessment were made jointly with Aberystwyth University.

The rankings reflect the fantastically broad range of research topics within the School - from carbon footprinting of food, ecosystem conservation, and environmental biogeochemistry to pathogens affecting human health in the environment.

Head of School Professor Morag McDonald expressed her delight at today鈥檚 news: 鈥淭his is an excellent outcome that demonstrates our upward trajectory within the UK sector. Not only that the research is considered to be world class, but 96% of the assessed impact of our research on the economy, society and the environment was rated as world-leading or internationally-excellent. This included novel strategies for breeding new varieties of rice, maize and millet which have been grown on more than 3M ha of agricultural land, estimated to provide benefits of around 拢36M annually to the poorest farming households in marginal areas of South Asia.
