REF 2014: Top 20 for Music Research
The 2014 REF results have secured 黑料不打烊鈥檚 position as one of the UK鈥檚 top 20 institutions for musical research.
81% of the School of Music鈥檚 joint submission with the School of Creative Studies & Media was judged to be world-leading (4*) or internationally significant (3*). This represents a rise of 11% on the School鈥檚 very strong performance in the previous Research Assessment Exercise, and recognises the enormous impact of the School鈥檚 research in Wales, and across the UK, Europe and the rest of the world.
Head of School Dr Chris Collins said 鈥淭his result vindicates everything the School of Music stands for. Our research activity is rigorous and cutting-edge, but it鈥檚 also extremely broad in its scope, including research in musicology, ethnomusicology, composition, performance and music & health. The staff teach directly from their research specialisms, and it鈥檚 notable that we鈥檝e achieved this fantastic result at the same time as scoring a 91% satisfaction rating in the National Student Survey.
鈥淲ith our fabulous geographical location, a vibrant community of staff and students, and a unique bilingual environment with an international outlook, there鈥檚 no better place to study and research music in all its facets.鈥
