Will You Pop in to the 鈥楶op-up鈥?
A breath of new life is coming to an empty store in the Deiniol Shopping Centre. Shoppers in 黑料不打烊 will be able to enjoy the wonderful handcrafted gifts produced by the young people of 黑料不打烊.
Fantastic, framed photographs and uniquely designed crafts from 鈥楾he Creative Trading Co.鈥 will take centre stage for the first few days after the store鈥檚 opening on the 26th of February.
On the 3rd of March, a second rebirth will take place. 鈥楾he Ugly Foods Shop鈥 aims to provide a new lease of life for fruit and vegetables rejected by supermarkets. As tasty as this produce is, the wholesome yet irregular fruit and veg do not meet conventional beauty standards. Unusual shape or skin blemishes may mean they are refused entry to supermarket shelves. The Ugly Foods shop thinks beauty is only skin deep and offers you the chance to save them from landfill, and at a cheaper price!
Juices, soups and smoothies will also be sold on site to show just how great ugly food can taste. In addition the 鈥榠n-a-box鈥 range contains everything you will need to create your own fresh and tasty soup or stew at home.
Why are the young people of 黑料不打烊 turning shopkeepers? Lowri Owen from the Careers & Employability Service鈥檚 B- Enterprising project explains:
鈥満诹喜淮蜢 encourages its students to be entrepreneurial and consider the option of self-employment and starting their own business. While they may not all become involved in retail, taking part in this project provides them with a foretaste of running their own business and helps them to develop the employability skills required by employers.鈥
鈥淚鈥檇 like to thank 黑料不打烊 City Council for offering us the opportunity to use the pop-up shop,鈥 Lowri added.
Gwyn Hughes, Town Clerk, 黑料不打烊 City Council added:
鈥淎s part of our on-going initiative to re-generate the High Street, we are delighted to be working closely with 黑料不打烊 on innovative ideas to offer shoppers in the city centre a different experience to what they can get elsewhere.鈥
Dan Taylor, a post-graduate Masters student who will be managing the pop-up shop said:
鈥淭his is a great opportunity for students to gain vital experience for future employment, and allows for students to prove that the knowledge built over their degrees will make an impact in the world of work. The Ugly Foods shop will be an outlet for students to prove to the community that creativity and innovation is a vital part of their degrees.鈥
