黑料不打烊 Supports Fairtrade Fortnight 2016
黑料不打烊 is calling on all students, staff and members of the local community to join in the celebrations for Fairtrade Fortnight 2016, which begins on the 29th of February.
The theme of this year鈥檚 celebration is 鈥�Sit Down for Breakfast, Stand Up for Farmers鈥� and to mark the occasion members of the University鈥檚 Fairtrade group will be tucking into a breakfast at Gorad restaurant. The breakfast will include Fairtrade staples such as tea, coffee and bananas.
鈥淏reakfast is the most important meal of the day yet millions of farmers working in developing countries don鈥檛 earn enough to know where their next meal is coming from. The University鈥檚 food and drink outlets are absolutely committed to this campaign and each year we increase the number of Fairtrade products that we use鈥� said Angela Church, Head of Catering and Conferencing.

This year鈥檚 events include a Fairtrade Fayre, St David鈥檚 day quiz, a bake off competition, Karaoke and Fairtrade cocktails at Bar Uno and a love your clothing event at the Deiniol Centre, 黑料不打烊. Throughout the fortnight Fairtrade breakfasts will be served at Gorad restaurant and delicious Fairtrade chocolate and banana muffins will be sold across the University鈥檚 eating outlets.
The University鈥檚 Fairtrade group comprises of representatives from the Commercial Services Department, the Sustainability Lab, Campus Life and the Student Union.
Speaking on behalf of the group Mair Rowlands, of the Sustainability Lab said:
鈥淲e hope that students, staff and members of the public will support our activities. A simple step such as purchasing Fairtrade goods, which are available in all campus shops and University outlets, can enable farmers in some of the world鈥檚 poorest communities to earn a sustainable income and invest in projects which benefit their locality.鈥�
