Manon Wyn Williams nominated as the Best Dramatist in the Welsh Language in Wales Theatre Awards
This Saturday night, 27th January, the Wales Theatre Awards Ceremony will be held in the Glan yr Afon Arts Centre in Newport. These annual awards 鈥榗elebrate excellence in theatre, opera and dance and to also acknowledge the role of reviewers in the both the creative process and audience development鈥. This year, Dr Manon Wyn Williams, Lecturer in Scriptwriting and Drama with Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol within 黑料不打烊鈥檚 School of Welsh has been nominated as the Best Dramatist in the Welsh Language for her drama Hollti which was first staged at last August鈥檚 Anglesey National Eisteddfod before embarking on a national tour in the autumn.
Manon commented:
鈥淚t鈥檚 a real honour to be nominated in this category given the calibre of the other dramatists on the short list. Hollti is a verbatim play and it would never have materialised but for the willingness of various individuals who gave up their time to contribute to the script. Hollti is in essence a collaboration and recording the comments of these individuals was a source of considerable pleasure. I wish to thank them for their support and co-operation and to Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru for the opportunity to create the script.鈥
Professor Gerwyn Wiliams, Head of the School of Welsh, added:
鈥淲e warmly congratulate Manon on this achievement. This is the third time in some many years for a member of the School of Welsh to be nominated for this award. Professor Angharad Price won it last year for her play Nansi, and Ll欧r Titus, one of our PhD students, won it previously for his play Drych. We also wish to congratulate Ffion Dafis, one of our ex-students, who has been nominated for her role as Lady Macbeth in the late Gwyn Thomas鈥檚 translation of Shakespeare鈥檚 tragedy, one of the plays sharing the shortlist with Manon Williams鈥檚 Hollti.鈥
