Upcoming Distinguished Guest Lecture - Dr Gillian Davies
黑料不打烊 Law School is delighted to announce a guest lecture by Dr Gillian Davies, a Barrister at Hogarth Chambers in London, on Thursday 24 November 2011.
Entitled 鈥淭he European Patent Office (EPO) in the Global Patent System 鈥 European Patent Convention (EPC) Law and Practice鈥, Dr Davies鈥檚 lecture is intended to demonstrate how the EPC fits into the global patent system (Paris Convention, Patent Co-Operation Treaty, etc) as well as its relationship to domestic laws and the EU patent. The talk will be of particular interest to students currently studying or intending to study the 鈥業ntellectual Property Law鈥 module.
Dr Davies is a specialist in international intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis on the international conventions governing patent law and copyright and related rights as a result of many years experience gained working for the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Geneva, the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) in London, and the European Patent Office (EPO) in Munich. Her expertise extends also to EU legislation on patents, copyright and related rights. A former Chairman of a technical board of appeal and permanent member of the Enlarged Board of Appeal at the European Patent Office (EPO), she has wide experience of the substantive law and procedure under the European Patent Convention (EPC).
Dr Davies is a senior co-editor of the 14th (1999), 15th (2005) and 16th (2010) editions of Copinger and Skone James on Copyright, as well as co-author with Kevin Garnett , Q.C., of a new book on "Moral Rights", published in 2010. She is also the author of "Copyright and the Public Interest", the second edition of which was published by Sweet and Maxwell in 2002. She recently joined the editorial team of Clerk & Lindsell on Torts, editing Ch.26 on Statutory Intellectual Property Rights.
